Introduction

High-purity argon is used in industrial manufacturing, precision welding, and analytical applications that require protection from atmospheric contamination. It helps prevent oxidation by displacing oxygen and moisture.

Typical Applications

Argon 5.0 (≥ 99.999%): Suitable for general TIG/MIG welding, laboratory purging, and routine analytical applications.

Argon 5.5 (≥ 99.9995%): Suitable for analytical instrumentation, including GC and ICP systems, and controlled-atmosphere applications requiring tighter impurity limits.

Argon 6.0 (≥ 99.9999%): Designed for applications requiring ultra-high-purity argon, such as sensitive analytical processes and specialized material handling.

Other Applications: High-purity argon is also used for glove boxes, pipeline purging, and vessel purging. The required grade depends on process conditions and allowable impurity levels.

Specifications & Availability: Impurity limits, grade availability, and acceptance criteria are confirmed during technical review and quotation.

Supply Options

Filling pressure: Nominal options range from 15 MPa to 20 MPa. The specified filling pressure and temperature are confirmed for each order.

Estimated gas yield: The following estimates use reference conditions of 20°C and 101.325 kPa:
• 40 L cylinder at 15 MPa: Approximately 6.0 m³ of gaseous argon.
• 50 L cylinder at 20 MPa: Approximately 10.0 m³ of gaseous argon.

Supply formats: Individual cylinders or multi-cylinder bundles, depending on availability and site requirements.

Order confirmation: Cylinder dimensions, tare weight, filling specifications, and applicable approvals are confirmed before shipment.

Valve Compatibility

CGA 580 outlet: Available for compatible inert-gas applications in applicable markets. Connection compatibility must be confirmed before ordering.

Cylinder neck threads: Must match the approved cylinder valve design.

Regulators and manifolds: Must be compatible with the selected valve outlet and rated for the applicable service pressure.

Compatibility check: Buyers should specify the required valve connection and confirm compatibility with their equipment before use.

Cylinder Preparation

Pre-Inspection: Returned cylinders undergo visual checks and positive residual pressure verification according to facility procedures.

Evacuation Processes: Cylinders are subjected to evacuation and purging practices designed to reduce residual atmospheric contamination before filling.

Filling Controls: Transfer lines and filling manifolds are purged prior to cylinder charging operations.

Post-Filling Seals: Outlets are fitted with protective caps or tamper-evident seals to maintain cleanliness during storage and handling.

Testing

Analytical Testing & Methods:
• Oxygen (O₂): Electrochemical or ZrO₂ trace oxygen analyzer.

• Moisture (H₂O): Electrolytic or capacitive moisture analyzer.

• Nitrogen (N₂) & THC: Gas Chromatograph with Pulsed Discharge Helium Ionization Detector (GC-PDHID).

• CO & CO₂: NDIR or GC-based trace gas analyzer.

Traceability: Cylinders feature permanent stamping and barcode neck labels linking each container to its corresponding manufacturing lot and laboratory test record.

Packaging

Packaging: Cylinders are fitted with valve protection caps and secured in suitable export packaging.

Documentation: Commercial invoices, packing lists, COAs, and SDS files are provided as agreed.

Transport classification: Compressed argon is identified as UN 1006, Class 2.2. Packaging, marking, and documentation follow the applicable transport regulations.

FAQ

Q: What are the MOQ and lead time?

A: The minimum order is typically 20 cylinders (40–50 L) or one 12-cylinder bundle. The standard lead time is 10–15 working days after specification approval and deposit.

Q: What warranty and support are provided?

A: Gas purity is guaranteed according to the COA at delivery. Valid claims supported by independent analysis within 30 days may qualify for replacement or credit. Remote support responds within 24 hours, with cylinder return and refill programs available.

Q: How much argon does each cylinder contain?

A: A 50 L cylinder at 20 MPa holds approximately 16.6 kg, while a 40 L cylinder at 15 MPa holds about 10 kg. Mass-based comparisons are recommended because volume varies with reference conditions.

Q: How long does one cylinder last?

A: At a TIG welding flow rate of 10 L/min, a 50 L/20 MPa cylinder provides approximately 16 hours of arc time; at 15 L/min, about 11 hours.

Q: How are purity and quality verified?

A: Argon is produced through cryogenic air separation and further purified by catalytic, adsorption, and getter processes. Cylinders are vacuum-baked and purged before filling.

Q: What valve outlets and certifications are available?

A: In addition to CGA 580, DIN 477 No. 6 and BS 341 No. 3 outlets are available. Cylinders can comply with ISO 9809, DOT, TPED, or GB/T 5099 and are filled under an ISO 9001 quality system.
